About ANN

With roots in the former National Museum of Nature, the National Agency for Nature conservation continues a longstanding national commitment to nature conservation.

Today, it leads efforts to protect biodiversity and ecosystems across Algeria, operating through six regional Development and Conservation Units responsible for inventories, species monitoring, protected area proposals, and supporting the sustainable management of natural heritage.

Biodiversity Conservation Monitoring Support Mechanism (MASCB)

The Biodiversity Conservation Monitoring Support Mechanism is a strategic digital tool of the National Agency for Nature conservation, made available to scientists and nature enthusiasts in Algeria. It aims to centralize, structure, and enhance data related to the country's faunal and floral biodiversity through reliable, standardized, and georeferenced information, in line with national standards and internationally adopted frameworks. The system contributes to strengthening scientific knowledge, supporting public policy development, and enabling effective actions for the conservation of the national natural heritage.

Remote Sensing for Change Detection

This course explores techniques for detecting and analyzing changes in the Earth’s surface using multi-temporal remote sensing data. Students learn image preprocessing, temporal analysis, and key change detection methods such as image differencing, post-classification comparison, and machine learning approaches. Practical exercises with GIS and remote sensing software enable hands-on experience in monitoring land use, urban growth, deforestation, and environmental changes. By the end, participants can design change detection workflows, interpret results, and apply findings for research, planning, and environmental management.
